the company that brought the world the ipod and five open set to make another big announcement later today. chris cotter joins us with more. kind of a double dose of apple today because their earnings sparked what we thought might be a rally yesterday until the afternoon when things kind of
6:24 am
changed direction. >> yeah, you're right, steve. that is a good point. yesterday, they gave us earnings after the bell so we expected yesterday, particularly on the nasdaq, the tech-heavy index that that would really be a benefit for them. also, companies like texas instruments, other tech names had great earnings yesterday. as you can see, we were down across the board and really, this was all because a late afternoon sell-off and that is what we're gel getting here a little bit, steve. we are getting people nervous about holding stocks overnight. not only are we get august lot of corporate earnings that seem to be pretty good but still not moving the market but we are getting economic data and maybe more importantly, political information. can you just look at the rest of the this week. you have the president's address tonight. you have aig hearings on capitol hill. you have possibly bernanke being confirmed in the senate and than you have a fed rate decision coming this week which they'll keep rates the way they are but it is what they say always that is more important. you have a lot going on in washington that is making people on wall street nervous

route know. no one is playing. they are just on the sued line maybe sitting this thing out. >> a lot going on out in california today talking about apple and their next device. the rumors have been out there. what do we know at this point as to what they might say later today. >> well, the big thing is how will they differentiate this tablet. we're 99% sure that is what it is going to be from other devices like the kindle because now you are starting to get cell phone that dabout anything. you've got net books that give you an awful lot of computer power interms of working on the web and they're inexpensive. so how will apple differentiate this product from others and then particularly, if they sell it at a fairly high price point, if you are talking about $1,000 or $800 to $1,000, it will have to do an awful lot to convince people to go ahead and spend that in addition to spending on the phones that they have. so that is really where steve jobs, who is going to make this announcement, that is where his challenge is. it is always interesting when
6:26 am
steve jobs takes the stage too. apple investors love it. they can wipe the sweat off their brow and say he is healthy. he will be around for another 48 years. always make them happy. >> we can talk about that tomorrow when we find out more today. have a good wednesday, chris. a safety concern prompting toyota to do something that no automaker has done before and sarah similar monday is following that story way local touch. >> the popular car company, toyota is suspending sales for eight of its vehicle models. coming up, what that means if you own a toyota and if you are looking to buy one. when fox 5 morning news returns. - hi. - hi. okay if we look around?
